The Vancouver School Board is very excited about the possibilities this project offers to design and develop a first class urban school for Vancouver children. The new International Village Elementary School will be designed and constructed to achieve LEED Gold‐equivalent status. The key project objective is to design and construct a new school facility that will be operational by the autumn of 2015. The school will be constructed within an air parcel above the existing parking structure at the Firenze development, located at Abbott St. and Expo Blvd. The school site is bounded by a childcare centre to the north and residential condos to the west. The preliminary proposal envisions a multi‐storey building with the main entrance facing onto Expo Blvd. The school will access outdoor play areas and playfield in the adjacent Andy Livingstone Park. As part of this project, the Vancouver School Board will be working in partnership with the City of Vancouver to incorporate community accessible spaces within the school.
