The design intent for INGASTOWN is to construct a modern building in appearance that respects and complements the authentic heritage charactoer of Gastown.
Design Features:
- The principle facade (on Cordova Street) is distinct in appearance. There is a clear distinction between the glass / steel commercial level and the brick construction of the residential levels above.
- At ground level, there are recessed entrances with recessed commercial space that turns the corner to "activate" the lane.
- The double height residential and commercial lobbies allow level access from the sidewalk
- The window glazing reflects the size and proportions of window in traditional Gastown buildings. The high level of glazing to the east provides the necessary daylight access to the building's small / deep units.
- horizontal glass canopies at the commercial level extend out over the sidewalk, providing shelter.
